Sprinkler Head Replacement

Restore coverage without sending spray onto paving or leaving a new dry gap.

Replace the head that failed, and the pattern it served

A sprinkler head that snapped under a mower, sank below grade or sprays sideways leaves two problems: the broken part, and the patch of lawn it no longer reaches. The fix is a head of the same type, height and spray pattern as its neighbours, set at grade and pointed so its throw meets the next head across the turf.

Mixing head types on one station causes its own trouble. A rotor and a fixed spray put down water at very different rates, so one valve feeding both will soak one area while the other stays dry. When several heads on a zone are old, replacing them as a matched set is often cheaper over time than one at a time.

Nozzles, spray bodies and the Glendale rebate

Newer high-efficiency nozzles and pressure-regulating spray bodies can cut misting and overspray. The City of Glendale's conservation rebate program lists high-efficiency nozzles and WaterSense labeled spray bodies among the irrigation products it covers for single-family city water customers. The conditions matter: the system has to be in good working order, the old parts must not already be on the WaterSense product list, and the application needs photos and an itemized receipt.

Check the program page before buying, since terms and funding change. After the new heads go in, run the zone and watch where every arc lands. Water on the sidewalk is wasted, and in Glendale it can become a water waste report. See the head pressure guide when heads mist or will not rise.

Questions about Sprinkler Head Replacement

Replace a head that is cracked, sunk below grade, stuck down, or leaking at its base. Adjust a head that is tilted, turned, or blocked by a plant. A head that mists or fails to rise at one time of day may be seeing low pressure rather than wear, so test it at another hour first.
